Tips to make Corn Fingers?
- Use Fresh Corn: If possible, use fresh corn kernels instead of canned corn for better flavor and texture.
- Cook Corn Properly: If using fresh corn, boil or steam the corn kernels until they are tender. If using canned corn, drain and rinse them thoroughly before using.
- Mashing Corn: Mash the cooked corn kernels well to create a slightly chunky texture. This will help bind the ingredients together and add texture to the corn fingers.
- Add Binding Agents: Use binding agents like breadcrumbs, Corn flour, or mashed potatoes to hold the corn fingers together and prevent them from falling apart while frying.
- Seasoning: Season the corn mixture generously with salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, or any other seasonings of your choice to enhance the flavor.
- Incorporate Vegetables: Add finely chopped vegetables like bell peppers, onions, carrots, or spinach to the corn mixture for added flavor, texture, and nutrition.
- Chill the Mixture: After shaping the corn fingers, chill them in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. Chilling helps the mixture firm up and makes it easier to handle during frying.
- Coating: Before frying, coat the chilled corn fingers in breadcrumbs or corn flour for a crispy exterior. You can also dip them in beaten egg for extra crunchiness.
- Frying Temperature: Heat the oil to the right temperature before frying the corn. The oil should be hot but not smoking. Test the oil by dropping a small piece of bread or corn mixture into it – it should sizzle and rise to the surface immediately.
- Fry in Batches: Fry the corn fingers in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Overcrowding can lower the oil temperature and result in soggy corn fingers.
- Drain Excess Oil: Once fried, remove the corn fingers from the oil using a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Serve Hot: Serve the crispy corn fingers hot with ketchup, mayonnaise, or any dipping sauce of your choice.
